Good morning friends! Or afternoon. Whenever this blog post finds you, I hope you are settling in for a few minutes of down-time. Maybe with an iced coffee in your hand and your feet propped up in front of you...
We all can relate to the times in life when it feels like everything around us is out of control. You are grabbing for the reigns to try and control the ride you are on, but the horse just runs faster and turns sharper? It can feel like life is going to "throw you off" doesn't it?
Yeah, I've felt these same things. Sincerely.
I wrote a devotional. It's called Trustworthy. It launches on August 1st, and I am really excited about it!
I had a season in my life where I felt like everything I tried to do "in obedience to the Lord" just ended up in a crash and burn situation. Over about a 3 year period, our church split, we had a failed 4-year adoption effort, we had a international move to serve children in Zambia crumble, we had another cancer scare, and in the middle of it all we were restoring a fixer-upper homestead that began to have the land surrounding it developed after being told that would never happen. Quite frankly, life felt unfair. And out-of-control. I felt misunderstood. I felt, truthfully, a little abandoned by God. Like He had "hung me out to dry" and forgot to take me down.
"Lord, I want to serve you, but I am met with closed doors." That was the repeat record twirling over and over in my heart. And do you know what God met me with? "You want to serve me, Catherine, but what about to just be with me?"
Trustworthy was born out of that response. In the early months of 2024 I felt desperate for something, anything. I had sunk into a despair that I had never before experienced. No matter what I seemed to do, desperately desiring to do things right, nothing seemed to pan out smoothly. And I'm not talking prosperity gospel-type-prayers left unanswered. I am talking prayers about doing His work, left unanswered. Where are you, God? was all I could think. I felt misunderstood by people. I feared being judged for being wishy-washy. And I felt, well, quite frankly, alone in a lot of ways. I was deeply down.
I basically just said, "God, show me you." Because I felt so disillusioned with Christian culture, leadership, missions, relationships, good works, church, and life, I just needed to know who God was. I felt a desire so deep, so real, so fresh to simply know God more.
If disillusionment has ever been your close companion, it will conceive in you a desire for truth that is so strong, you'll basically become an obcessed investigator to find it. Find it afresh, I did. God met me in those quiet hours and long stints of just sitting at His feet with my tears and disillusionment. He showed me Himself. And I fell deeper in love. You're all I want God. You're really all I have. I am waffling in my trust of who you are. Show me who you are. Oh and He so did. Little glimpses of His glory. The Son's rays began to break through and part the clouds of my heart. And I, am forever changed.
And that "Show me who You are" prayer birthed Trustworthy. It will be out to share via Amazon on August 1st. I pray that, if you read it, you're heart will bubble with affection for the God who is so very trustworthy. He is a diamond, sparkling from every angle we look. The longer we look, the more we will admire. He is the prize. He is the point. He is the the bread and the wine. He is the reason for anything good.
I have found afresh, He is indeed, trustworthy.
